Welcome to the new site of the Embassy of Portugal in India!
I come back to you 20 months after my arrival in this fascinating country.
Time run fast during this period because of the many events that took our attention and that mobilized us.
First and foremost was the visit of the Prime Minister António Costa to India, the first State visit of a Portuguese Prime Minister to this country. The visit allowed for meaningful developments in several bilateral dialogues, but above all it allowed for the resumption of a friendship and partnership path that we are trying to pursue since many years.
Six months later and already as a result of the success of the visit, it was the time for the Indian Prime Minister to go to Portugal. It was indeed another opportunity for tighten relations and to reinforce a friendship that existed already between our two peoples and that now our political leaders are also assuming in a very particular way.
This high level understanding is already having reflexes in economic relations, in tourism and in the cultural interchanges. Curiosity about Portugal is growing in India, as curiosity about India is growing also in Portugal.
The Embassy of Portugal in New Delhi is trying to encourage this mutual attraction, following up on several bilateral meetings, suggesting ways to proceed, advising and informing, building bridges, projecting interests, but above all representing Portugal.
It is a permanent work of small steps and a lot of perseverance that I hope can contribute for a closer relation between Portugal and India.
